About Me

Well let's see...I am a 34 year old fishing and hunting nut!  I have a lovely wife, beautiful daughter, and 2 crazy Italian Greyhounds.  We recently moved from Newport News, Virginia to the Emerald Coast in Navarre, Florida. I am proudly serving on active duty in the United States Air Force for over 14 years now.  I have been to many places around the world, both good and bad! I'm also pursuing my Bachelors Degree in Professional Aeronautics at Embry Ridde Aeronautical University (ERAU).

My passion for fishing started when I was able to hold onto a 2 foot fishing rod courtesy of Mom and Dad. I was very fortunate to grow up on Wind Lake in southeastern Wisconsin. This is where I learned how to fish. As the years went on, I became a dedicated musky and ice fisherman. I started entering ice fishing tournaments (or as us Wisconsinites call them, "jamborees") when I was 14.  My first year entering tournaments I took first place in the crappie division.  That was a very exciting day because that meant that I got to take the money I won and go right to the local sporting goods store to buy more fishing gear.

My start of paddle sports and fishing started when I was 15. I took out my Mom's canoe along with some fishing rods and would fish all day long. I was hooked!! Fast forward until to now...I took up kayak fishing in early 2011 full steam ahead without looking back! I knew the minute that I loaded a few rods in the back of modified milk crate that it was going to more than just a cool hobby. I wasted no time in doing hours and hours of homework on the Chesapeake Bay and all of its inhabitants. It didn't take long to get on some of the fish that this area is known for.

Since that time frame I have landed numerous trophy fish in both the saltwater and freshwater. Being the competitor that I am, I've entered many tournaments and placed very well in almost all of them. My most notable placings are 1st place for the “Slam” divisions in the 2013 YakAttack Kayak Fishing Tournament and 2012 Tidewater Kayak Anglers Association Kayak Fish For Charity Tournament (3rd largest kayak fishing event in the country), as well as top 10 finishes in the 2013 Kayak Bass Fishing Open and the 2012 IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Atlantic Division Angler of the Year race.

I feel very honored and privileged to represent some of the finest companies in the kayak fishing industry. Being a pro staff member with Johnson Outdoors (Ocean Kayak/Old Town), Werner Paddles, Kokatat, YakAttack, All Pro Rods, Ram Mounts, Orion Coolers,  and HOOK1 enables me to give back to others in ways of sharing knowledge, experience, and motivation while giving respect to the pioneers of this great sport.

I have a strong passion for kayak fishing and God's creation. It's truly a blessing to live in this great country and pursue our passions that we so choose.  Meeting new people and building relationships on the way is the best part. I want to be able to help others in their journey just like the many that did for me. If there is any way that I may be able to answer a question or give advice, please stop me in person or shoot me an email. I love talking to everybody!

See ya on the water!

  2. Hey Richie,

I enjoyed reading about your background. I was immediately draw to your association with Embry Riddle. I had plans to attend the university a while back, but things did not work out as I had hoped. But my cousin and her husband both work for the university so I still have some fondness for that place. Thanks for your service to our country and I hope that you will find some great fishing down in FL.

    God Bless!
